Partners' Capital Account Format
The Partners' Capital Account is a ledger account that records each partner's permanent capital under the Fixed Capital Method. It is used to record opening capital balances, additional capital introduced and capital withdrawn by partners. It is prepared together with the Current Account when a firm uses the fixed capital method, and its balance is shown under Owner's Equity.

Write the title "Capital Account" in the centre, with the debit side (Dr) on the left and the credit side (Cr) on the right, and provide a separate amount column for each partner. Balance c/d is entered on the debit side and double lines are ruled on the same total line before Balance b/d is brought down into the next period.
Parts of the format
- Account title
- The account name "Capital Account" is written centred at the top to identify the ledger account.
- Debit side (Dr)
- The left side records reductions in capital such as capital withdrawn and Balance c/d (the closing balance).
- Credit side (Cr)
- The right side records increases in capital, namely Balance b/d (the opening balance) and additional capital introduced.
- Column for each partner
- Each partner has a separate amount column so that each person's capital can be tracked individually.
- Balance b/d and Balance c/d
- Balance c/d (a credit balance) closes off the account at period end, and is brought down as Balance b/d at the start of the next period.
- Fixed capital concept
- Under the Fixed Capital Method, the capital balance stays unchanged unless there is additional capital or capital withdrawn; profit, drawings and interest are recorded in the Current Account.
