After SPM: LCCI & ACCA
For many students, SPM Prinsip Perakaunan (code 3756) is a first step towards an international accounting qualification. This page explains two onward pathways students often ask about: LCCI dual certification and the ACCA accelerated route. LCCI dual certification (3756 LCCI)
- SPM Prinsip Perakaunan candidates who reach a certain level are eligible to apply for the LCCI (London Chamber of Commerce and Industry) Level 2 Book-keeping and Accounts certificate.
- Eligibility is shown on the SPM result slip, usually near the bottom, as “3756 (LCCI) – Pass with Distinction”, “Pass with Merit” or “Pass”. If the LCCI line is not printed on your slip, you are not eligible to apply.
- The certificate is not sent automatically. You must apply for it separately and pay a processing fee; the fee is set each year, so confirm the current amount.
- The benefit: one SPM exam can give you two certificates (SPM and LCCI, UK), which can strengthen a college, scholarship or early-career job application.
ACCA accelerated pathway (via FIA/CAT)
- After SPM, students can begin Foundations in Accountancy (FIA, formerly known as CAT) before progressing to the full ACCA qualification.
- Students who achieve grade A+, A or A- in SPM Prinsip Perakaunan can claim an exemption from the FA1 (Recording Financial Transactions) paper in the FIA programme, which means one fewer paper to sit.
- FIA can typically be completed in about one year and gives a solid foundation for ACCA.
- ACCA updates its exemption policy from time to time. Confirm current exemptions through ACCA’s official exemption enquiry before enrolling.
How this affects your planning
Both pathways depend on how you perform in Prinsip Perakaunan: the LCCI level follows your marks, and the ACCA exemption requires an A+, A or A-. A higher grade gives you a better SPM result and more options after school, which is why a strong foundation in Form 4 and Form 5 is worth the effort.
