Meaning
The Imprest System is a method of controlling petty cash by setting a fixed amount (the imprest/float) for a certain period. At the end of the period, the amount spent is reimbursed so the balance returns to the original float. This makes petty cash easier to control and audit.
Example
Bestari Shop sets a float of RM200 a month. During the month, RM150 is spent and RM50 remains. At the start of the next month, the head cashier reimburses RM150 so the float returns to RM200.
