Meaning

Balancing off an account is the process of finding an account's balance by working out the difference between the total of the debit side and the total of the credit side. The balance carried down is entered as balance c/d at the end of the period, and reopened as balance b/d at the start of the new period.

Example

Example: In Maju Enterprise's Cash Account the debit side totals RM5,000 and the credit side RM3,200. The balance c/d is RM1,800 (on the credit side) and the balance b/d of RM1,800 is reopened on the debit side.
