Meaning
The double-entry system is a method of recording every transaction in two accounts, where one account is debited and another is credited with the same amount. The system is based on the principle that every transaction has two effects. It ensures that total debits always equal total credits.
Example
Example: Bakti Enterprise buys inventory for RM800 cash. Debit the Purchases Account RM800 and credit the Cash Account RM800: two accounts, equal amounts.
